The Mummy Medals

Mummy Medals

Parenting can sometimes seem like a long slog. It can be frustrating  yet fun and frantic. It has been almost 15 weeks since the arrival of my beautiful Olivia. It has gone so fast. I want to make sure I remember the important milestones so I’m making a “Mummy Medals” regular post to help me remember what these little ones are up to when I look back. Its also good to make myself that I’m doing a good job even though sometimes it doesn’t feel like it.

Feel free to comment or make suggestions for the regular questions I should ask myself in my Mummy Medals feature.

Mummy Medals Achieved This Week

  • Gardening
  • Marking
  • Cold call redirect
  • Juice making
  • Nappy changing
  • Reunited with monkey

What am I proud of myself for this week?

I planted a rockery this week and pulled out all the nettles in my overgrown garden to make it safe for George and Olivia. The garden still has a long way to go but I feel like he can play and enjoy being out there now without being in too much danger.

How did George make me Proud?

George makes me proud every day. This weekend we had some friends over with toddlers. George was tired and spent the first couple of hours either napping or in a sleepy tantrum. Eventually he woke up and started to play with the other children. It was so nice to watch him play and interact with others.

George has also started to make longer sentences although his favourites are:

  • Open it
  • Get down
  • I do it
  • More juice

How did Olivia make me Proud?

She has started to give us one of the best gifts a baby gives it parents… sleep! She has started to sleep much better at night and it almost feels like we get a good nights sleep most nights. She has the odd 4am wake up but I can’t complain as George was up every 2 hours until he was 10 months old.

She has also practicing her amazing cuteness with lovely cues.

He neck strength is improving and she had her first bounce in the Jumperoo this week, although I think she still needs a couple of weeks as it did seem a little overwhelming for her.

Funniest Moments

I put George on the phone to a cold caller. He had quite a conversation. I expect a new energy pack through the door any day now.

I caught George putting some of his board letters in his mouth. I told him “out your mouth”. He complied, then I saw him hide his mouth and put a letter in again. He thought because I couldn’t see his mouth I didn’t know what he was up to. I had to hold in the laughter as I told him “out your mouth” again as I was starred at with suspicious eyes.

Frustrating Moments

I think the most frustrating moments have involved an overtired George. He seems to be dropping his daytime nap now unless he has a car journey. He gets really grumpy and throws himself on the floor at the first sight of not getting what he wants immediately. For Example: I managed to place him in the pushchair asleep as I “nipped” into Morrisons. I placed his toy Rattie with him but when he woke up he wanted Monkey! I spent most of the trip around the supermarket with a crying toddler who only wanted Monkey. I tried to get out as fast as I could but it was frustrating to watch as I just wanted to make him feel better, poor thing. I was glad Monkey was waiting for him in the car… Phew!

Guilty Moments

I have been marking GCSE Chemistry and this has been taking my time where I wanted to spend it with the kids. It will pay for our summer holiday spending money though so I can’t feel too guilty. I just don’t want to miss out on any previous moments.

Any Plans?

I’m looking forward to the Crich Village Fete on Saturday. We haven’t been before but it is supposed to be great for kids. I might even meet some other mummy’s with toddlers George’s age.

I also have a meal with my work colleagues on Thursday. One colleague is leaving and another retiring. I’m so happy for them both as they are going onto new adventures. It will be nice to see them and give them a send off.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about my Mummy Medals. What are your Proud moments this week?

Brunching with a Bellini

Summer brunch

I’m so excited about this summer as my garden has almost finished being landscaped. I’ll soon have a garden to enjoy. Not one to be a loner though, I’m looking forward to sharing the garden with my friends and family. My wood fired oven is already built and my patio was laid just last week. Now I just have to focus on the finer details… the entertainment. I’m looking into recipes for summer brunching but I’m hoping to match meals to an easy classic cocktail – The Bellini.

Drink of the summer – The Bellini

I’ve spent the past few years pregnant or breastfeeding. During that time it has been a struggle to find a drink that is like… well a real drink. I’ve never been one for wine and tonic water can only hit the spot for a short period. I think now I can explore a little more flavour and mix up some fruity party drinks over the coming months. This bellini recipe from Absolut looks super easy. Its basically vodka, peach puree and champagne. It even describes how to make your own peach puree if you struggle to find it at the supermarket.

You might be thinking, well I can’t drink those all day! No problem: one thing I like about this link is that there are not only recipes for using with their vodka but there are also some non-alcoholic suggestions for pregnant ladies or designated drivers that want to feel like they are part of the party. Check out the ingredients here at Absolut vodka Bellini recipes.

What to Eat?

I want to make the most of my wood fired oven so I’m going to prove some pizza dough, make a tomato base sauce and then invite the guests. I usually ask guests to bring one topping (or cheese) and then when everyone arrives we have an abundance of ingredients to make interesting pizzas in the oven. I love to keep the ingredients minimal and then scatter fresh garden herbs or rocket salad on the top for added B Vitamins. Once baked these can be nibbled on during a brunch or evening party. Don’t forget the bellini!

I can’t wait to welcome friends and family this summer.

What do you think to this summer drink suggestion for your garden party’s?

Crich Tramway Museum – A Great Family Day Out – Worth a Visit

Crich Tramway Museum

I have lived near Crich Tramway Museum for almost 5 years now. I have walked past it on many walks past the Crich memorial tower and thought that it would be a nice place to visit. The thing is, I’m not that big on trams. We decided to give it a go this spring bank holiday and boy we were not disappointed!

Fun day out

Great for all the family

It is not all about Trams at Crich Tramway Museum. It is like walking back in time with the trams and buildings looking like they straight out of the 18th-19th century. There are various picnic areas including one near a bandstand. The museum also features the following which will keep your children entertained:

  • An indoor soft play
  • A large outdoor play park
  • a rock maze
  • a woodland walk with magical wooden sculptures to investigate (including a workable giant wooden Mr Potato head wooden sculpture)
  • Fish and Chips
  • Ice-cream from artisan ice cream makers bluebell dairy
  • An old blue wooden police box (for those doctor who fans)
  • Gift Shop

The trams take you to various parts of the immersive village where you can take in stunning views of the Derbyshire landscape or investigate the history of the area. At one of the stops you can hop off your tram and enjoy a small circular walk to the Crich Memorial Tower which overlooks the attraction.

Fairs at Crich Tramway Museum

The prices are very reasonable for the family. We paid £16.50 for each adult. Under 4’s are free so we sauntered in at a little over £30. Children’s tickets are £9.50 and there are family tickets available as well as concessions. The best thing about the tickets though: once you have paid to go in, you get free return within the year. You just need to keep the receipt that you have signed. There are a few themed days that the free return is not valid on (5 per year) but you can’t really grumble at that.

Our Adventure

It can be difficult to find attractions which cater for the whole family when your little ones are so small. With George being 2 he could not really enjoy the fun fair. The mock up beach area just presented an opportunity for him to run off and find a hill to ascend and descend repeatedly. That being said, the village was push chair friendly and he was able to get out and explore at various times during the day. George enjoyed his first Punch and Judy show as well which was a pleasure to see. IF you are looking for a relaxing day out with a young family, I would definitely recommend Crich Tramway Museum in Crich Derbyshire. Website.

If you wanted to incorporate a Derbyshire walk or some geocaching there are some nice walks (and geocaches) nearby. Check out my walking with toddlers blog for tips or for my summer fun tips.

Cuddles with my Cuties Part II – Makes me Burst With Love

Cuddles with my cuties

Warning! Extremely soppy post! You may be at risk of either vomiting or needing your entire brood to be near for a warm embrace!

Cuddles. It’s strange that they are so wonderful. After pregnancy and postpartum recovery when your body just wants a break from it all, there they are to make it better.

Recently, I’ve found myself just stopping to give my babies cuddles. It just fills me with love and makes me want to pop!  Maybe it’s because having a tiny baby again is just so lovely: The busy hands, the illogical flip switch from happy to extreme sadness and the need for constant physical contact. It might be this contact that is making me love the cuddles. Whatever it is, I’m certainly appreciating my little ones more and more. It’s almost like I’m slowing down time to make sure I remember these special times.

Is George really 2?

IMG_8559

I remember holding tiny George loving how he was a new part of my life. I loved feeding him and watching his cheeky character grow and develop. He still is tiny (but bigger), more cheeky and certainly a card, but it’s all gone so fast. Age 2 is still young but now I’m reliving the tiny baby days I worry that I’ve forgotten so much. It’s all gone so fast. I miss the busy hands days and then we have cuddles. The cuddles make it ok again. I remember, he’s the George I love because of his journey. I’ve been there with him and cuddles are just a way of stopping to remember that.

Cuddles with Olivia

IMG_8076

Olivia loves to be held. She is 9 weeks old now… where did that go? She’s starting to hold her head up like a champ and she’s awake for longer… much longer. She reminds me of tiny tiny George and she reminds me of me. I’ve used a stretchy baby carrier with her so that I’ve been able to look after George as well and the constant cuddles has kept her settled. It’s also nice for me. She is always near and I can just stop to give her a warm embrace and a kiss on her head. I’m making the most of this.

Will it end?

Some children grow up and don’t want that togetherness that they have as children with their parents. Will my duo grow up to be that way or will they love to come home to cuddles? I want them to grow up to be strong and independent and would never want to discourage them from reaching for their dreams, but please, when they do come home, let there always be cuddles.

I hope you’ve enjoyed reading about my cuddly love for my children. Let me know if it’s made you want to cuddle your precious ones?

Thank you for reading.

Aquadoodle Deluxe Review and Game Tips

Aquadoodle Deluxe Review

I wanted an Aquadoodle Deluxe for George as I loved the idea of colourful messy play. Messy play without the mess that is.

Even though George poured the “paintbrush” container all over the carpet when we first played I know now he wouldn’t be without it.

Weight Loss After a Baby – Getting Started – Follow my Vlog for Tips on a Weight Loss Journey

Weight Loss

Weight Loss: is it the right thing to focus on? I have an issue with weight. Not because I want to loose it but because of what it means to so many people. So I’m going to start by saying this… no matter what weight you are, you are beautiful! Your weight does not define you as a person and it shouldn’t be used as a measure of how society views you as a person.

Why I want to lose weight

Lets talk about weight loss. I have lost weight successfully before. I have gained weight after having 2 babies quite close together.I had a cesarean with my first and this prevented me from starting up a rigorous exercise routine again. During my second pregnancy I suffered with SPD and this prevented me from doing quite a bit of exercise so I’ve become generally unfit, oh yeah and I gained weight during pregnancy too which is no surprise.

I feel like it is the right time to start getting back into shape. Not because I am fixated with a particular weight, but because I want to develop a healthy lifestyle for my children. I want them to view the “normal” option as the healthy option so that they grow up making the right choices about their diet and exercise. I’m hoping this gives them a healthier, happier and chance of a longer life.

A Little Motivation

A little quote to help you along today:

“It is often said that before you die your life passes before your eyes. This is in fact true. It’s called living.”

Terry Pratchett

Go out there and live!

Have a nice day.

I’m Moving

Hello my dear readers. I just wanted to let you know that over the next few days I’m going to be moving my blog onto my website www.adelemary.com

It seems silly having a separate blog to my website. I have been promoting my artwork on there for a while but chose to write elsewhere. I thought that my own site might be too personal but I’ve found that my posts are just an extension of what I’m thinking anyway. As the site is basically me I thought that my blogging would make a nice fit and it means that I’m able to focus on a single site. This will hopefully mean that I will be able to improve my content and post more regularly.

Please expect notifications to change from love my Abode to Adele Mary. If you stop getting notifications please find me again. I’ll be posting under my usual tags.

Thank you for following and reading my posts.
